Six years, 70 thousand miles, and my introduction to the world of driving. That is something that can't really be summed up in words and is just something to be experienced. Each person has their own individual 'first car' experience, whether it was short, long, or even still ongoing. Anyways, I feel like I was lucky to find a dependable honda for cheap that I was able to learn to wrench on, drive for pure entertainment, and of course just live my life with. The farthest west we went was Indianapolis, Indiana. To the south, Norfolk, VA. To the north, Boston, MA. And to the east, Montauk, NY. What a fun adventure, but alas it is on to my next adventures in the miata!
Purchased: $900 (113k miles)
Untold amounts of hours spent on maintenance: ???
Sold for: $1350 (185k miles)
Profit: Haha who cares =p

That's pretty awesome. I'm driving a 2001 Civic, which is also my first car. So far I've put on... ~150,000 km. I've taken it some crazy places. E.g.:
(Bonneville salt flats a few years ago).
I'm hoping to get another 70,000 km on it, perhaps after which I'll replace it with something like a Tesla Model 3. It'll be a sad day when she goes. It's seen a lot, and been with me through a heck of a lot.

Miss my '91 CRX Si badly as well ... should have put it in storage and dug it out 25 years later instead of selling it. It was so cherry - 20K, and pristine.

if only my civic could ever have been considered "cherry". Although I couldn't expect much for $900

You younger guys have no idea how great you had/have it as far as 1st car reliability. I couldn't even dream of anything remotely as reliable as a Honda although I learned A LOT about doing your own repairs.
It's something I'm glad my dad forced me to do even though I absolutely hated it when he started out teaching me.
Hope car #2 is something a little more aspirational for you, but over time you'll be surprised how much enjoyment you get from cars you would never expect to enjoy

Yup, my mom's vehicle! Been around since new in 2001

Bought the Si new and drove it back and forth to U MD (my second attempt - graduated that time). Despite no airbag, I'd gladly DD it today, if I needed a car, which I don't. Other than a '76 BMW 2002, I've never driven a car with such easy and direct inputs.

I had a 97 DX until I was rear ended and it was totaled. Loved that thing to pieces.

!!! I was also rear ended and lost my hatchback! God, why. Why do bad things happen to good cars.

I know - its such a shame. The worst part is knowing you did everything in your power correctly, and that it was some other idiot's mistake that messed it all up.
In any case though, good things always come to light after such events. In my case, I was able to get my dream car much sooner than I had thought. Mk7 GTI's weren't even out of Mexico at the time, but I was able to snag one of the first ones to arrive in the states. Can't say I don't still miss the Civic though. It wasn't fast or glamorous, but damn was it reliable and fantastic on gas haha.

Yeah man, I'm over in Belmar all the time since my girlfriends parents are over on 11th Ave. Im definitely gonna try autocross this spring/summer down in AC, you should go too!

If I had a manual in that car, I would have surely kept it forever. Something like an early 90s hatch si with manual would definitely be something I could own again one day. As long as it is bone stock, no mods, maybe some pop-up headlights, and I would that would be awesome to daily!

Yeah my budget was $800-$1100 so I am lucky to have even gotten something that ran. I remember seeing some mercury sables, Ford Rangers, and Dodge neons in questionable conditions in that price range. A Ranger would have been fun in manual, but still not as reliable as my Civic. I think I easily went a good 30k miles without changing anything other than oil, tires, and brakes pads. I wish I had a chance to autocross it just because I know I knew the car so well. But I'm sure I won't be complaining when I'm autocrossing my miata! But I think the biggest thing my Civic taught me is that all cars are enjoyable and there isn't really such thing as a boring car.

ah yes, autocrossing. with my car. Hahaha but seriously we should try to arrange an Oppo Shore meetup this summer.

Boat racing can be fun, how many knots does it hit? Lol jk. Definitely, as long as we pick a place that isn't loaded with bennys, I'd enjoy that. We could always try an oppo meet at formula drift in June at Wall Speedway. Or one of the less trashy events there haha.

My car was identical to the one below - not a scratch on it - should have kept the damn thing. So light it didn't need power steering. The only bad thing it ever did was spook the WWII vet who lived next door - he had served in Okinawa. That the other car in our driveway was a Camry wagon didn't help.
